The Giving Tree - For the Children of Sudan..For Us

The Giving Tree : Hackberry Programs 2009

*Lets destroy the Phone Company! Here's how and why we must.

THE IDEA: Late one night after talking with Mel Chin, about life, love(or lack there of) and poor peoples pork this little advertisement popped up on CNN. Mel was locked down and in the thick of his PAYDIRT & FUNDRED project. WWW.FUNDRED.ORG
http://blog.art21.org/2008/03/03/mel-chin-the-fundred-dollar-bill-project/
He said and I quote "now you listen here I'm trying to remove lead from 86,000 properties in New Orleans and come up with $300,000,000, you think you know something about something?"*. He then told me to stop bitching, bury my heart, and to do something. So here it is, I'm done bitching.**

THE PROJECT:
We build a Tree. A Symbol for our future. A symbol with a purpose. The tree trunk will be built out of shovels, rakes, gloves, hammers, tree trimmers..Tools for rebuilding.
The leaves will be small solar panels made to recharge batteries, cell phones, small electrical devices. Inside the tree will be multiple large batteries to collect all the solar juices and the car batteries will power several Cellular Based Modems (Cricket, Clearwire) and High Powered Routers.

The tree will be part of a small park that will have a few public laptops for those in need. Anyone with a laptop and a microphone will be able to make calls to anyone, anywhere in the world. No more calling cards, no more bullshit monthly phone bills. If we can make one here in Nashville and make it work, then others will build them in their own cities around the world.

In Nashville alone there are Sudanese, Persian, Mexican, South American, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and other immigrants that spend a fortune calling home. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
This is totally unnecessary today for anyone, this can work, but we need your help. I have persoanlly canceled my Cell phone($70+ a month) and switched to Skype as my primary number. Give me a call hear or see for yourself 1.615.713.1177 by phone or Commander.Green by Computer.

The Official Story:
Skype was founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype created a little piece of software that makes communicating with people around the world easy and fun. With Skype you can say hello or share a laugh with anyone, anywhere. And if both of you are on Skype, it’s free.

The Unofficial Story:
Skype is now an Ebay company, hopefully that will help them grow. Skype was founded as an Idea. The idea was simple, it was but an answer to the question "How do we destroy the phone company?" With Skype you can make video calls from computer to computer for free, and it works remarkably well. Even better you can make calls to Cellphones and Landline from your computer for almost nothing. "It’s just 2.1¢ per minute¹ to over 35 countries worldwide, but there’s a big list of rates to destinations everywhere in the world."

So why did i just receive a $300 phone bill from ATT/Cingular? I was told my charges were .40 per minute. My plan was already $45 dollars a month and I was forced to make calls during "peak" hours dealing with credit card companies and other entities demanding money from me. Yet for $99 a month I could have Unlimited Minutes! So those that cannot afford $99 a month must pay more in a crisis? That Sounds like a black hole of debt upon debt upon debt. Once you can't pay this bill you get fees, just trying to deal with the fees you accrue more fees and you quickly find the floor beneath your feet has vanished.
