There are few architects with as much mystery an respect to them as Louis I. Kahn, even the name itself is something to live up to. Though the number of structures he completed was quite limited his life serves as the quintessential 20th century model for quality over quantity. He managed to find a delicate interplay between his raw materials, usually concrete and wood, and light and space that created environments with a presence that was both peaceful and intimate, as well as daunting and sublime. Like a true nomad, his creations existed somewhere between the physical and spiritual world. Here are a few of his major works; Salk Institute, National Assembly Building of Bangledesh, Phillips Exeter Academy Library,
Kimball Art Museum.
From the Film "My Architect"
The Film"My Architect" is unlike any other historical biography. It is of a son's spiritual journey to find out the mystery behind his fathers life and work. Scene after scene has moments authentic discovery rather than a simple pre-programmed message or portrait.
