Marshall McLuhan called it the Global Village, Howard Bloom updated the idea and called it the Global Brain. From a google image search for "What does the Internet look like?" this is what turned up and how appropriate that it looks like a series of neurons and is roughly brain shaped. Add the video of Kevin Kelly describing WEB 3.0 below and you've got enough to chew on for a few weeks.
